This design pays homage to the first to do it, the OG’s, the ones that gave style, STYLE.
The top reads 天下無敵 “Tenka Muteki” which in the Japanese car culture is often used to express invincibility, unbeatable performance, or ultimate style whether is about a car, a driver, or a team. It could also be translated into “King of the road” or “Unstoppable on the streets.” You would most likely see this on a drift cars livery, license plate, or team sticker. It brings a mix of confidence, skill, and street cred.
What catches your eye next in red is Taylor’s family mon (crest) which is passed down from generation to generation. It is the seal or emblem that represents a house or family. On the left of it is 家庭 which reads “family” and the right is 様式 which reads “style.” Underneath in Katakana is カルマ which is none other than “KARUMA.” To tie it all together, the bottom says 宇治原組 which is “Ujihara Gumi.” Gumi refers to “group” or “clan” and if you a ridah, you know about the Uji Distribution Family.
I was inspired from the fashion style of Bosozoku gangs. Bosozoku translates to “Violent running tribe” or “reckless driving group.” The whole culture revolved around the speed, thrills, and extreme customization of motorcycles or cars. Although they were seen as deliquents, they had a high sense of morality and held a lot of traditional Japanese values, mainly modeled after Bushido which is “way of the samurai.” The bushido code had 8 virtues: Honor, Loyalty, Courage, Rectitude, Benevolence, Politeness, Sincerity, and Self-control. Bosozoku members would wear a tokko-fuku which means “special attack clothing.” They were always decorated with Kanji slogans with something like “no wins, no losses.”
Their fashion style was the starting point of the culture and planted the seed for all of us which established the roots of style~.
